About

“Criticising your childhood memories! You’re welcome!”

Goals:

– Relaying the (relatively) unbiased experience of someone chronologically travelling through graphic novel and animation history’

– Creating a guide for those interested in older works or in the evolution of anime, manga, comics,…

– Discovering hidden gems and sharing them

For the past few years I have been watching animated movies, tv shows, anime, cartoons, comics, graphic novels and manga in a fairly strict chronological order, attempting to see and read everything I can find. Mostly to be able to enjoy older things that were “good for its time” by comparing them to their contemporaries and also to get an idea of how these artforms evolved and of who influenced whom. Two reasons motivated me to launch this webite:

1) To find an outlet for my thoughts and experiences. Up until now,  I’ve been keeping this hobby to myself because well, you can’t really talk to people about a show that was made on the other side of the globe at a time when babyboomers were still called baby’s, without alienating a few friends.

2) To help at least a few people find something to view or read that they wouldn’t have found otherwise. You will notice I am very subjective and might take a piss all over your favourite childhood anime. Of course you are free to be angry about this and never visit again. But I hope we can agree to disagree and maybe you will still find something that tickles your interest in another post.

Continuing with an apology: the quality of content on this blog may vary. First of all, English is not my native tongue, and I don’t have anyone proof reading or editing my posts, so please forgive me for any annoyances on grammar or vocabulary. Secondly, I am only a human being. I write subjectively and to be honest, I’m pseudo-intellectual at best and definitely not an academic. Some research will be done, but mostly I just write whatever idea pops into my head. Some of my stuff might be insightful and on the ball, some of it might be a total miss. Hopefully you will find at least some of it entertaining or interesting. Thirdly, even though I have been compulsively following this chronological order for years, I’m not that much of a completist. My time is still valuable to me and I won’t waste it on the mediocre, so don’t expect me to have watched every 52 episodes of your average 70’s mecha anime.

I am always open to constructive feedback!! Did I use “then” and “than” at the wrong time? Did I miss your favorite 1942 Merrie Melodies cartoon? Share it in the comments!
